Her narrative work explores how fragments of fairytales\, myth\, and popular culture\, specifically advertising\, allow her to tell coded stories of gender and sexuality. Elizabeth received an MFA from Ohio State University and a BFA in ceramics and glass from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has also studied at Penland School of Craft\, Pilchuck Glass School\, and Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts. Elizabeth has been a resident artist at the Vermont Studio Center and the International Ceramics Studio in Kecskemét\, Hungary. She has received a 2010 Jerome Foundation Ceramic Artist Project Grant and a fiscal year 2017 Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board (MSAB). In 2021 and 2022\, she received Creative Support for Individuals Grants from the MSAB. In 2025\, she received a Flexible Support grant as well as an Arts Impact for Individuals grant from the Metro Regional Arts Council of Minnesota. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPeter Jadoonath is a Minneapolis-based ceramic artist whose career is marked by a deep commitment to the regional pottery community and a prolific exhibition record. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Bemidji State University in 1998\, laying the foundation for a practice that spans functional pottery\, sculpture\, and arts education. Over the past two decades\, his work has been featured in numerous prestigious venues\, including the Northern Clay Center\, the Minneapolis Institute of Art\, and the Minnesota Museum of American Art. Notable recent exhibitions include “Earth and Water” at the Phipps Center for the Arts and “The Fantastical Worlds of Kim Simonsson” at the Swedish Institute. \n\n\n\nJadoonath’s professional contributions extend beyond the studio into significant leadership and pedagogical roles. He has served as a faculty member at the Northern Clay Center since 2005 and has taught at the Eagan Art House and the White Bear Center for the Arts. His expertise is frequently sought for workshops and juries; he has served as a juror for the Jerome Fellowship and the Highland Arts Festival and was a member of the 2018 NCECA planning committee. \n\n\n\nThe quality of Jadoonath’s craftsmanship is reflected in the accolades he has received\, such as the Jerome Grant\, the Red Wing Ceramics Fellowship\, and a Cultural Community Partnership Grant. His work is held in several permanent collections\, including the Tweed Art Museum and the Margaret Harlow Ceramic Collection. He is currently represented by galleries such as Schaller Gallery and The Grand Hand\, and he remains an active participant in regional traditions like the St. Croix Valley Pottery Tour. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more about the McKnight Summer Open House

She is often inspired by things society deems a craft or feminine such as\, quilting\, sewing\, and decoration. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSandra Daulton Shaughnessy\n\n\n\nI describe my clay work as ‘ceremoniously functional\,’ meaning there is an element of ritual involved while using my handmade pottery. Many of my pieces have an altered quality that expresses the softness of the clay and the atmospheric soda firing process. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCelia Feldberg\n\n\n\nCelia Feldberg is an artist living in Philadelphia\, PA. Born in England and raised in Massachusetts\, she earned her BFA in ceramics from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (Boston) in 2019. She makes illustrated pottery\, teaches\, and maintains an active involvement at craft schools. She is currently a resident artist at The Clay Studio (Philadelphia). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStephen Heywood\n\n\n\nHeywood’s work is influenced by architectural structures including factories\, silos\, barns\, and water towers. His vessels are often composed of many wheel-thrown and handbuilt parts and take their shape as small functional sculpture. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nErica Iman\n\n\n\nIman’s hand-built work is inspired by geological formations. She leans on the clay’s inherent qualities to mimic the processes and structures in nature. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSamuel Johnson\n\n\n\nJohnson’s work represents a blend of control and natural variation\, emphasizing the organic changes produced by the wood kiln. Johnson’s work has been shown in over 100 group and solo exhibitions and is included in the permanent collections of multiple museums. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSteven Young Lee\n\n\n\nLee has lectured extensively in North America and Asia and is inspired by the dichotomy of the metropolitan and rural communities he has worked in. His intentionally deconstructing vessels aim to challenge traditional craft protocols and question classical notions of beauty and perfection. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSuze Lindsay\n\n\n\nWorking with stoneware clay\, Lindsay subtly suggests figure and character by manipulating forms after they are thrown. An integral part of her work includes surface decoration to enhance her pottery forms by patterning and painting slips and glazes for salt firing. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAndrew McIntyre\n\n\n\nMcIntyre is inspired by patterns and luminosity of stained glass windows and he implements these details into his own work. He uses the traditional technique of perforating patterned holes in the clay to allow room for filling these windows with glaze to achieve a unique level of translucency. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTaylor Mezo\n\n\n\n Using slab building and wheelthrowing techniques\, Mezo’s work has playful forms and geometric surface patterns. She works primarily in funk-tional ceramic wares\, made from red earthenware with a vibrant color palette. When she is not working in the studio\, Mezo is probably scoping out a local classic car show for inspiration. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKyoungHwa Oh\n\n\n\nOh’s work consists of functional and sculptural carved porcelain. First\, her pieces are thrown on the wheel\, and then altered by cutting\, adding clay\, and carving to create new forms. Like Yin and Yang\, Oh encompasses the influence between traditional Asian values and modern Western society.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDoug Peltzman\n\n\n\nDoug Peltzman was born in New York City and raised on Long Island. He has been making pots since 2003. Since graduating with his MFA from Penn State (University Park\, PA) in 2010\, he established a pottery studio with his wife\, Pam\, in Shokan\, New York. He is a father of three young children\, a dedicated husband\, and a full-time studio potter. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLindsay Rogers\n\n\n\nRogers describes her practice as having a\, “foundation deeply rooted in craft tradition.” She uses regional brown stoneware clay that she forms on a manually operated treadle wheel. Rogers is inspired by the connection between pottery and food and creates pieces that reflect the\, “tremendous beauty that comes from the experience of creating and sharing a lovingly prepared meal.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRelated Events\n\n\n\nClick on the tiles below to purchase tickets for opening night\, workshops\, and demonstrations: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nConference Scholarships and Discounts Available100% scholarship available to BIPOC attendees50% scholarship available to any who identify as experiencing financial need \n\n\n\nAPF DemonstrationsThere are a limited number of scholarships and discounts available for demonstration passes.
