SEPTEMBER 12 – 14, 2015
Main Gallery, Emily Galusha Gallery, Sales Gallery
Northern Clay Center announced its 17th annual fundraising benefit and celebration of the pot: a three-day extravaganza revolving around the art and use of the pot that brings together collectors, artists, students, and lovers of clay.
What is the American Pottery Festival (APF)?
FUNDRAISER: First and foremost, the APF is Northern Clay Center’s annual fundraiser. All contributions and purchases, during this special weekend, support NCC’s programs that advance the ceramic arts (minus the artists’ commissions, of course!).
EXHIBITION and SALE: Annually, we invite a group of artists who work in diverse materials and methods—from strictly functional, to highly decorative, and every combination in between. Many of the artists you will recognize, and—we hope—some will be new to you. The APF begins each spring with a Preview Show in the sales gallery—a sneak peak of work by over 20 invited artists. The APF culminates each September with a three-day sale and exhibition of over 1000 pots.
MINI-CONFERENCE: Many of the invited artists travel to NCC for the festival, where they present an artist talk, demonstration, or workshop. They might discuss a signature form, process, or research interest, or lead you through a hands-on project. Slide talks are included with your $5 door fee; the pre-festival and weekend workshops are priced separately. The APF is a unique opportunity to talk with artists in the galleries and chat with other pottery lovers who come to town for the event.
COMMUNITY: The APF is a time to come together each year to discuss and celebrate the studio pottery tradition in the United States. The APF has grown into a dynamic event in its 15 years, thanks to a wonderful cadre of invested individuals and supporters—the artists, buyers, enthusiasts, artist hosts, local educators, volunteers, staff and board, and our food purveyors.
