In the summer of 2017, NCC turns its exhibition spotlight on our incredibly talented members (comprised of students, educators, professional artists, and novices). We invite you to view the array of talent of our member-artists who represent the foundation of our organization with their commitment to and support of Northern Clay Center. Comprised of work from 44 artists, the exhibition will span the wide variety of work being made in the field of ceramics: sculpture, low and high-fire, soda and wood-fired. The exhibition was juried by artists Ron Gallas (Minneapolis, MN) and Amy Smith (Lincoln, NE).

The Jurors:

Ron Gallas is an award-winning sculptor, residing in Minneapolis, MN, and an associate professor emeritus of art at St. Olaf College in Northfield. Gallas’ awards include a National Endowment for the Arts Apprenticeship Grant, a National Endowment for the Arts Craftsmen’s Fellowship, a Ford Foundation Faculty Enrichment Grant, and a Ford Foundation Matching Funds Grant. Ron has exhibited in regional, national, and international exhibitions, and conducted countless workshops throughout the United States in the past 40 years. An early member of NCC’s artist advisory panel, Gallas has had a long and involved affiliation with the Center.

Amy Smith first touched clay at Ohio University in Athens, OH. Her ceramic education continued as an apprentice for Kaleidoscope Pottery in Easthampton, MA. She earned her MFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Smith exhibits her vessels nationally including: Pottery by Design, The Clay Studio, Philadelphia, PA; Cupling, CFile.daily, Santa Fe, NM; Yunomi Invitational, AKAR, Iowa City, IA; and Celebrating Collecting Past Present Future, Kennedy Museum of Art, Athens, OH. She is represented by Modern Arts Midtown in Omaha, NE.
