I choose to work in clay because, of all of the forms of visual art, clay is essentially of the earth. It is symbolically linked to ever moving, ever changing life, including my own. I trained as an artist, but left it to pursue a career in law. After nearly forty years, I returned to art and found in my art something quite different than I had seen as a young person. I now know that the work I do as an artist is my spiritual journey and my path to understanding myself and the world I live in. In essence, most of my work is an exploration of the relationship of the interior to the exterior, both figuratively and literally. The theme of organic change manifests itself in various ways, sometimes explosive and at turns, gentle. Always, there is a sense of movement in my pieces. This movement is very important for artistic purposes, but also symbolically. In time the exterior makes way for the rich interior to emerge. We are all moving, growing and changing in this life. I am gratified that I can share my intensely personal vision and that people, so inclined, may find an understanding of my work on several different levels.
