Warren MacKenzie Advancement Award Recipients

MAY 4 – JUNE 24, 2018
Emily Galusha Gallery

Opening Reception: Friday, May 4, 6 – 8 pm

This exhibition of Warren MacKenzie Advancement Award (WMAA) alumni artists aims to share with our constituents the successes, challenges, and new directions in creative pursuits of this unique and beneficial granting program. The WMAA, founded in 2014, provides an opportunity for students and emerging artists to continue their ceramic research and education for a period of up to twelve consecutive months within the grant year, further expanding their professional development. During the grant year, the recipients can research a new technique or process, study with a mentor or in an apprenticeship setting, travel to other ceramic art centers or institutions for classes and workshops, collaborate with artists of other media, and travel.

Since its conception, the program has supported nine emerging ceramic talents from across the country whose research has spanned the spectrum of ceramic technique, aesthetic, and education.

WMAA exhibiting artists include:
2014 recipients Kevin Kao, Roberto Lugo, and David Peters; 2015 recipients Stuart Gair and Jacob Raeder; 2016 recipients Patrick Kingshill and Candice Methe; and 2017 recipients Adrienne Eliades and Grace Tessein.

The Warren MacKenzie Advancement Award is made possible through the support of generous individual and institutional donors in honor of MacKenzie’s legacy of ceramic education, both traditional and non-traditional. Additionally, support for WMAA comes from proceeds from sales of NCC’s secondary market inventory, which includes a variety of contemporary pots made by local and national makers.

Many thanks to Richard Bardy for the generous and accommodating loan of Roberto Lugo’s artwork for this exhibition.
