I spend time observing the gentle nuance of nature, captivated by the undulating edges of flower petals, curling back to invite pollinators into a symbiotic floral welcome. My clay vessels and sculptures mimic subtle traces and minute details of these intriguing natural forms. Curved edges and architectural structures of plants provide inspiration to my ceramic work. These simple natural forms continually pique my interest and propel me to keep exploring through a variety of medium, especially clay.
As I roll out slabs of clay, I am reminded of baking with my Grandmother. She baked using simple kitchen tools while following a sequence of steps, like a well-practiced dance that led to her tantalizing baked delicacies. Her process was filled with joy. In my clay work, I also use tools that are simple and familiar, allowing me the ability to create with ease, intuition and joy. Subtle textures left from tools and hands create a mystique and sense of wonder while leaving gentle markings and evidence of the creating process. I approach my ceramic work with a sense of wonder and fascination as I explore the relationship between the dichotomy of the organic essence of the natural world and the solidity of creating in clay.
