Gabs Conway Bio
Gabs Conway (Eau Claire, WI) is a sculptural ceramic artist whose work stems from the curiosity of existence. Exploring the playground that is life, she builds whimsical monstrosities based around snap shots of moments in time. She is inspired by relationships and community between all creatures. Larger forms suggest a relation towards humans, living much simpler lives; almost as if evolution had taken a different path, or a parallel universe. She reflects apathetically at the “reality” that humanity has built, and strives to create a much kinder, slower world. Asking the viewer to question our reality, to reconsider an appreciation for the mundane, and to inquire what it means to exist in an ever changing world.
Originally from Missoula, Montana, Gabs holds a BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, and has spent time in the field working as an educator and studio coordinator. She was a long term resident with Wildfire Ceramics Studio, has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across the United States, and holds awards from institutions such as Belger Arts and Wildfire Ceramics Studio. Her experiences inform her personal work in many ways as she pushes the boundaries of clay; explores relationships and community, and is intrigued by familiarity in the unusual.
